Hilton Meetings & Events 10+ Book

10+ Book Project Details

The purpose of this project was to decommission e-events and move our group bookings onto the One Hero Web platform. There are 2 main flows needed to accomplish this, Book and Shop. We started with Book because it was faster to market and we could leverage work from the recently redesigned booking flow. The objective was to simplify the booking flow for group bookings.

Team:
  • I was the lead designer on this team.

  • I worked closely with a UXA, a UXR, 2 product owners, 3 developers, an ADA compliance specialist, a copy writer, and the project manager.

Process:
  • 2 week sprints

  • Daily Standups

  • Agile Process

User Research, Requirement Creation, and Opportunities:

On this project I worked closely with the UXA and Product owner to define requirements both from a business and user standpoint. We gathered research that already been conducted, and also held several labs, did interviews, and tested hypotheses for specific features.

We then compiled a list of pain points for the project we called “Agora,” while creating personas and user journeys. An exciting UX exercise for us that helped us in this process was creating “How Might We’s.” For instance, “How might we make the room selection process easier?” or “How might we encourage the user to book by making them feel more secure?”

Opportunities:
  • 13 inputs to get from search to results

  • 27% exit rate on search entry page

  • 95% revenue from guest rooms

  • 25 pieces of information required

  • 1 in 3 users exit in final step

Wireframing

We took a lot of time in the discovery process on this project. Which meant a lot of wireframing, iterating and going back to the drawing board. We wanted to make sure we were thinking through all scenarios and were using the time wisely to find innovative solutions that would give the meetings and event planners the best experience possible.

What MVP success looks like?

Objectives:
  • For the search of 10 – 25 rooms only

  • Allow users to place a group hold

  • Submit guest and/or meeting room RFP (request for proposal)

  • Continue to support SRP create

  • Support Honors and non-Honors

  • Desktop & Mobile Web

  • Extend to all brands

  • English only

We leveraged much of the design from the original rooms page but the experience had to be tailored to meetings and event planners by allowing the user to select numbers of each room, showing the price breakdown, and giving the option to submit a pricing request.

The payment page also had to undergo a few changes by allowing the user to add group details, add payment information purely to guarantee the booking, and give the user the option to select collective or individual billing, as well as showing the full breakdown.

Once the booking was created, guests would have to  individually go in and book their rooms.

For the confirmation page, we added the ability to show/hide the full breakdown in case the user needed to review the details or share the details with anyone.

We also added a quick entry point into the HiltonLink experience, which allowed the user to manage their group booking or event.
This experience is also in the process of
being redesigned.

Features

Working within a design language system, especially at a company like Hilton, is so vital. There is no way to ensure consistency or integrity of the design without it. But in order to design the best solutions for our users, sometimes we need to challenge our ways of thinking and amend or add to the system. Two new components we designed and built within our system to solve the unique challenges of group bookings were the reservation summary and the multi-room selector.
